The Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System |

In 1903 Fairhaven Bellingham merged with two other nearby cities on
Bellingham bay to form what is now modern day city of Bellingham
Washington but Fairhaven seems to have a style and appeal all its own.
The Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Fairhaven Bellingham offers seasonal Whale
watching excursions and seasonal passenger ferry service to the San
Juan Islands and Victoria British Columbia. Fairhaven has a long tradition of shipbuilding, from large wooden vessels
to modern fiberglass yachts. Uniflight Yachts were once
built in a facility along the Fairhaven waterfront and currently
Aluminum Chambered Boats builds state-of-the-art high performance
aluminum welded watercraft that are in high demand by both
fishermen as well as the U.S. Navy and homeland security.
Fairhaven and nearby Edgemoor
area are considered by many to be some of Bellingham's most
sought after neighborhoods and its not hard to see
why--Fairhaven has the look and feel of a small seaside village, yet it has easy
freeway access to all the shopping, dining, and employment
opportunities Bellingham has to offer.
The red
brick buildings and quaint shops of Fairhaven have been carefully maintained to preserve their old world charm and the effect is remarkable.
Electric trolleys once carried passengers through Fairhaven's brick
streets and linked up with the City of Whatcom all the way to "White City", an
amusement park that was once located at Lake Whatcom.

Fairhaven
Residential Developments
Many of Fairhaven's single family homes and condominiums enjoy unobstructed views of
Bellingham bay and the San Juan Islands. Area homes range from
charming turn of the century cottages to elegant waterfront mansions and
everything in-between.
The last few years there has been a number of new upscale condominiums
built to take advantage of the sweeping views of Puget Sound, and there are more in the planning stage,
some phases of these projects sell out even before their
completion. All new buildings are carefully scrutinized
and must architecturally blend in with existing buildings to maintain the look
and feel of this very special area of Bellingham.

Whale Watching Excursions
The Bellingham Cruise Terminal is home to Whale Watching Excursion
operators taking passengers on a scenic cruise through the San Juan
Islands in search of Whales. Washington's resident Orca Whale
population continually migrate around the local waters so you never
know where they may turn up on a day to day basis and seasonal
visiting whale pods are occasionally seen as well. Local whale
watching tour operators utilize a network of spotters and a whale
spotting sea plane to keep track of whale pods to help ensure their
passengers see some whales on their outing. Whale Watching operators
are always sure to keep a safe distance as to not bother the whales
with the objective being to get you in close but not too close. The
Orcas may feel like they are being stalked but they don't seem to mind
the attention.
